Jerry Billing and Spitfire's
In September 1913 Noel Pemberton-Billing opened an aircraft factory on the east bank of the River Itchen at Woolston .Using the telegraphic address "Supermarine" he started building aircraft and flying boats to his own designs. Supermarine Aviation Works best know aircraft design was the Legendary Spitfire. Kind of ironic that the man that started Supermarine Aviation Works was the great uncle of Jerry Billing and Jerry being the longest operating pilot of the type with 52.5 years.
Jerry operated four civilian operated Spitfire's for various owners over his career across North America. Whether it be a ferry flight or a air show display, Jerry never turned down the opportunity to jump behind the controls of a Spitfire.
